Vodafone India has announced an unlimited roaming plan for Rs 1999 under the new Red Postpaid calling scheme. It is offering unrestricted roaming, incoming voice calls, 8GB data for either 3G or 4G customers, and 500 free messages.

Another Vodafone plan, available for Rs 1699, has similar features but only 6GB internet. Outgoing calls in roaming will be charged at Rs 0.50 per minute. In both the offerings, data usage above the mentioned quota will be applied with a surcharge of Rs 0.50 per megabyte.

Vodafone has also announced 4 other Red postpaid plans with double connectivity benefits at Rs 499, Rs 699, Rs 999 and Rs 1299. In each plan, the internet limit increases starting from 1GB. Talk time for local and national calls is set at 700 minutes in the entry-level option and is extended at higher rates. All schemes are giving 500 free messages.

Earlier this month, Vodafone lowered its charges by increasing the quantity in data packs. Customers could avail more internet on their phones at the tariff they were paying previously. This move catapulted Vodafone into the price wars started by telecom operators like Idea and Airtel.

Idea and Airtel recently introduced various schemes at reduced costs for its customers. Both companies gave extra connectivity without a change in their subscription. Airtel also gave back 50% of internet used during its Happy Hours as a way of reducing user fees.

The war between telecom operators started with Reliance’s announcement of launching 4G data at affordable rates via Jio. This sent its competitors into a tizzy and they reacted by slashing rates or by increasing limits in existing plans.

Vodafone India CEO Sunil Sood had stated at its 4G launch that Jio’s entry into the market will definitely shake things up. He said that companies would announce new offers and services to hold a customer’s attention when a new competitor joins the sector. He also asserted that his subscribers will have little need to join any other network.
