Vodafone 4G hits Mumbai

Vodafone has introduced its 4G network in Mumbai and is planning to deploy the high-speed offering in a phased manner gradually across the city. It’ll begin rolling out its services at key business and residential corridors in the Western Suburbs and South Mumbai.

In a statement, Vodafone asserts it’ll spread its 4G reach to the Eastern Suburbs and New Mumbai by March 2016. The metro is a key region for the telecom operator, given its status as the top service provider there. The city apparently contributes to over 30% of the brand’s data revenue.

Vodafone had previously claimed to have sunk in over Rs 500 crore into Mumbai in order to upgrade its network in the region and set up 1000 new sites. The player is also gearing up for its Bengaluru 4G launch which is going to take place on 11 February. The company’s LTE platform started its journey in the country in Kerala last year.

As has been the case before, Vodafone subscribers in Mumbai can avail themselves of a free 4G SIM upgrade and can even get the card delivered to their homes if they ask for it before 4 pm. Packs starts from Rs 11 for 35MB of data and climb upwards to Rs 2499 for 20GB worth of data. The brand’s network will be competing with Airtel, the only other major provider to have begun its LTE services there.
