Vivo V1 officially announced, set for late July release

The Vivo V1, part of the company’s new music-focused V series, has been launched in India and will be hitting shelves later this month. An identical larger offering, the V1 Max, was also announced alongside it. There’s no specific price out yet, but both are supposed to be in the Rs 15000 to Rs 20000 range.

The all-metal V1 has a 5-inch 720p HD screen and contains the company’s own FunTouch OS based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The device runs on a 64-bit 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 CPU in conjunction with an Adreno 306 GPU. Its daily power needs are met by a 2300mAh battery, whose life is extended through a Stamina mode.

The main camera has an LED flash and a resolution of 13MP. Selfies are taken by a 5MP wide-angle 6P front lens with an aperture of f/2.0. The Vivo handset contains 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD. It’s a dual-SIM phone that can be connected through 4G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Check out the specifications of the Vivo V1:

The new Vivo V1 faces stiff competition from established Chinese and local players. The Shenzen-based company has been stepping up its India game recently by setting up shop at its Greater Noida plant to manufacture 1 million units per month. They’re probably trying to appeal to a wide audience, and even have plans to release five models during the third and fourth quarter of the year, varying between Rs 10000 and Rs 30000.
