Verizon Mobile Security app for Android hits the Play store

The Verizon Mobile Security app for Android has been rolled out for those who fret about unauthorized access, viruses and other such threats. The software is available in options like basic, premium and premium with Total Equipment Coverage.

The application basically protects Android-powered devices from digital and physical danger. It does so by allowing users to remotely locate and lock their smartphones and tablets, set up alarms and even wipe the data stored in them. The app supports Google’s mobile platform starting from version 2.1 and above and tags along security features from Asurion and McAfee.

The basic version sees to threats including viruses and malware. It also provides the McAfee SiteAdvisor feature that warns users against suspicious websites. Customers can download this app free of cost, but a Verizon data plan is required.

The premium edition shares the same features of the above mentioned version with the addition of the McAfee App alert highlight that reports applications which can access, store or transmit data to or from tablets and smartphones. Recovery capabilities from Asurion are added for locating and locking smartphones as well as wiping data stored in them. It can be downloaded at a month charge of $1.99 per line.

Users with Total Equipment Coverage can subscribe to the Security Premium software at a monthly charge of $1 for each line. It includes the Asurion Wireless Protection Plan tailored for lost, stolen and damaged devices as well as the carrier’s Extended Warranty which aims at electrical and mechanical defects once the device’s warranty expires.

The Verizon Mobile Security app for Android is already available for download via the Google Play store.
