UC Browser updated for Windows and iPhone, now comes with data compression, cloud features

UCWeb has rolled out Windows and iPhone updates for its popular UC Browser. It’s been a long time coming for iOS users, who haven’t gotten an upgrade since October 2013.

The Windows version of the UC Browser now has support for cloud-based computing tools. The company claims its data compression technology will ensure that consumption is reduced by half, which would result in faster browsing speeds. Syncing through the cloud also allows for bookmarks and tabs in the mobile app to automatically appear in the browser.

Other features included are a file manager to sort out collections according to type and the ability to pause and resume downloads. The iPhone update for UC Browser contains big changes with a major user interface redesign, an ad blocker and a video player. The app will also allow for more flexibility in design, with people given the option to change their wallpaper.

UCWeb says the application has also been given data compression features. They further claim that elements of webpages viewed on the browser will be rearranged to give users a better browsing experience. This could potentially lead to sites loading faster and consuming less data, which would mean the power required would be low and battery life could be saved.

The upgrade for iOS hasn’t been released yet. Many of the updates being delivered have been available for the Android app for some time now. According to the company, UC Browser is the most popular web application in India, with more than 100 million daily active users, capturing 48% of the market share.

UC Browser version 5.2 is available for free download for Windows users here and version 10.0 will come out soon for iPhone here.
