The UbiSlate 7+ that is touted as a successor to the budget-friendly Aakash tablet has now been launched in India. This latest offering boasts of GPRS capabilities with a SIM card slot, something that was not proffered by its predecessor.

Apart from allowing users to hook up to GPRS networks, the tablet is also Wi-Fi enabled, permitting owners to access the internet via a hotspot. Additionally, an optional monthly data plan of Rs. 99 for 2GB is being made available by the company on purchase of the slate. What’s more? Well, this cost-effective device chews on Gingerbread and comes embedded with a 7-inch resistive touchscreen, a Cortex A8 processor clocked at the speed of 800MHz as well as a 3200mAh battery.

Other key attributes of the device happen to be the HD video co-processor, access to the GetJar app store as well as DataWind’s own UbiSurfer browser for an enhanced mobile experience. Additionally, the hardware is replete with a microSD card as well as a full-sized USB port to attach peripherals. The USB terminal lends support to optional 3G modems too. At the 7+ launch, the company also introduced the UbiSlate 7C featuring a four-point multi-touch capacitive screen for tablet enthusiasts in the country.
