Twitter revamps its search feature

Not just the web version, but also the iPhone and Android editions of Twitter will be updated with new search functions that are aimed towards making the search experience better, according to the website. Search autocomplete and ‘People you follow’ search results are the fresh traits, as the micro-blogging site likes to point out.

With search autocomplete, users will be able browse through the most likely terms that they could be querying for, as they enter the word/s. This will particularly be useful for those looking for a user account or trying to follow hashtags for certain events. These queries will be selectable via a drop-down menu which will appear before users finish typing the terms.

“We’re constantly working to make Twitter search the simplest way to discover what’s happening in real time. To that end, today we’re introducing search autocomplete and ‘People you follow’ search results to twitter.com. In addition to recent improvements like related query suggestions, spelling corrections and more relevant search results, these updates make it even easier to immediately get closer to the things you care about,” Frost Li, Software Engineer at Twitter wrote on the site’s official blog.

Other improvements to the search feature include automatically corrected results for misspelled terms, related suggestions as well as results with real names and usernames. Moreover, besides seeing ‘All’ and ‘Top’ tweets for the searched keywords, user will even have the option to see tweets on the specific topic from only the people they follow.

As mentioned above, the iOS and Android apps of Twitter will also be getting the new search options along with the web version.
