As expected, Samsung has launched the Tizen-powered Z2 smartphone today in New Delhi for a price of Rs 4950. The model is the third member of the Z series which operates on Samsung’s own OS. It is the first in the lineup to have 4G VoLTE support.
The Z2 brings with it a complementary invitation to the Reliance Jio preview offer that gives 90 days of free calling and data services on 4G network. This enables access to premium apps like My Jio and Jio on Demand for the same period.
The Tizen OS gives a number of features to the Z2. It has support for 12 Indian languages. Samsung claims that the latest version of the software allows gesture unlocking for the device. The phone has a range of India-specific options like the Ultra Data Saving Mode which consumes 40% less data when using apps. It also has the recently-introduced S-bike Mode which is designed to keep calls at bay when riding.
Samsung has installed a whole range of apps in the phone keeping the Indian consumer in mind. The My Money Transfer application claims to manage payments and generate bank statements. First-time smartphone users can make use of the Smart Tutor service that gives personal assistance for using the device.

The Z2 has a 4-inch display with WVGA resolution. Its 1.5GHz quad core processor is combined with 1GB RAM. The phone’s 8GB internal memory can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. The 1500mAh battery allows 4G browsing for 8 hours, as claimed by Samsung. The device is fitted with support for OTG.
