The entire setup features a slim power-ready protective case and a removable, interchangeable battery. It basically safeguards the device enclosed within it while also serving as a portable external charger and a power hub for charging several gadgets simultaneously. The Smart Battery supplies energy to the Slim Case without calling for wires or cables of any kind and the case does not need to be taken off for syncing or powering up.
“Manufacturers are developing amazing new mobile devices and applications, but have been unable to address the central issue of battery life,” expressed Brian Lemelman, CEO of Third Rail Mobility. “Until now, there hasn’t been a one-size-fits-all solution to protective cases and backup batteries. The Third Rail System changes that and is the first solution that has the potential to replace traditional power accessories for mobile users.”
The battery in question is a 1.4oz 1,250mAh Li-ion battery which slides into the protective shell. A microUSB port transforms it into a standalone, universal charger for other devices and Smart Batteries can be stacked together to build a power hub for collectively juicing them up. Additionally, an embedded LED battery level indicator displays the remaining battery life. This shielding cover will also be released for other smartphones sometime this year.
