Tesla Motors developing a new robotic ‘solid metal snake’ car charger

If there’s any company you’d expect to be working on a cool robotic ‘solid metal snake’ car charger, it’s Tesla Motors. Backed by entrepreneur and inventor Elon Musk, the automobile manufacturing company is well known for making electric cars in spite of the fact that such vehicles are hardly a popular choice among consumers.

Cleaner energy is all well and good as long as it suits the wallet, right? Getting back to the snake-like car charger Musk has been teasing through his Twitter account, he says that Tesla Motors is working on building one which will actually slither to a vehicle and start powering it up.

According to Musk’s tweet, the robotic charger might automatically detect the electric car in question, pop out of its wall space and connect itself to the concerned outlet on the automobile. Whatever else you decide to say about it, there’s no denying that it’ll look like something out of science fiction for sure.

Speaking of science fiction, Musk is also the man behind the Hyperloop, a high-speed transportation concept using reduced-pressure tubes and pressurized capsules riding on a cushion of air. It will connect Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay Area and will be able to cover a 570-kilometer stretch in 35 minutes, if it ever comes into being.

As for the charger, it will be compatible with all the Model S cars being sold by Tesla and not just the ones which will be launched in the future. Maybe Musk was keen to emphasize on this point so that fans and customers don’t think of the robotic device as a creation which will take years to hit the market.

But Musk hasn’t said anything about when Tesla Motors’ solid metal snake car charger will actually be available to users.
