The GSM company, Tata Docomo recently came up with the new Video News Alert service for its 2G and 3G subscribers in India. It will provide them alerts of breaking news via video clips.

Users can stream, view and download video clippings of this service on their mobile phones. The Video News Alert service is a result of an exclusive partnership between Tata Docomo and Network 18, an Indian network of business news channels.

“The exciting new Video News Alert service is a push service via SMS wherein subscribers will be kept informed on all current events. What’s enticing is the ability to get news in video format as it allows customers to watch the news clip and world happenings on the move. Tata Docomo has always been at the forefront of offering services that are relevant and affordable. We are pleased to partner with Network 18, our content aggregators for this initiative,” cited GurinderSingh Sandhu, Head of Corporate Marketing at Tata Teleservices Limited.

Subscribers are enabled to search and read news stories. The latest service allows users to share their viewpoints regarding a story, express their like or dislike for a particular news item, participate in polls and speak out their feelings and concerns.

For acquiring the Video News Alert service, subscribers have to send an SMS to 53333 citing ‘VIDEO NEWS.’ After this they will receive a subscription confirmation SMS accompanied by a link to access video news. Users will be able to view three video clips each day. Although this service doesn’t possess any subscription charges, users have to shell out 10 paise for 10Kb of data access. If ever they wish to discontinue the Video News Service, users can dial 155223 or SMS ‘STOP VIDEONEWS’ to the same number.
