Tata Docomo dangles Photon Max Wi-Fi data card with free roaming in our faces

The point of a dongle like the Tata Photon Max Wi-Fi is to let you take your internet with you anywhere you go, right? So you’re probably going to fall for the free roaming offered along with this latest data card priced at Rs 1,999. It can be used anywhere where coverage is available and Tata won’t add roaming charges to the bill.

Additionally, the dongle is capable of creating a Wi-Fi hotspot so that users can share the same connection with a maximum of five compatible devices including mobile phones or tablets. The Photon Max delivers internet speeds of up to 6.2Mbps.

Of course, if you find yourself in a place where the optimized Tata network is not available, there will be a decrease in speed. In such cases, there’s an option to switch to Photon Whiz’s 153.6Kbps connection. The USB stick is compatible with Windows 7/XP/Vista/8 or Mac OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8 and higher.

Measuring 90.6mm x 12.6mm x 28.6mm and clinging on to EVDO Rev.B mode, the dongle operates in the 800MHz frequency band and lends support to 16GB external memory. It can be hooked up to most desktops or laptops via a USB 2.0 port. Users can expect upload speeds of up to 3.6Mbps.

For those who choose to pick up the Tata Photon Max Wi-Fi with prepaid monthly plans, there are Rs 300 and Rs 350 schemes proffering 10GB data. The unused data gets carried forward to the next cycle. The second plan throws in 1GB extra for the first four months.

The postpaid deals cover 3GB, 4GB, 6GB, 11GB and 15GB of data for Rs 650, Rs 750, Rs 950, Rs 1200 and Rs 1500 per month. Post bundle usage, the speed gets knocked down to 153.6Kbps. When you run out of juice, you can also top it up with Rs 125 or more.
