Social networking buffs across the globe can now look forward to making voice calls to their Facebook friends. That’s because, T-Mobile recently released its VoIP app dubbed Bobsled by T-Mobile, intended towards bridging the gap between traditional telecommunications and Internet-based data and voice services.

First to be launched under the Bobsled brand is the Bobsled app for Facebook, which enables all Facebook users to make free, one-touch calls to their friends from a PC and via the chat window. Apart from placing voice calls, the app provides users with the ability to send voice messages if their friends are not available either through ‘walls’ or privately. Touted to be one of the first VoIP apps which are seamlessly incorporated into Facebook Chat, this free app makes it easier call to any of the Facebook friend.

“T-Mobile’s focus is to innovate to provide simple and affordable communications for customers, enabling people to stay connected wherever they are,” commented Brad Duea, senior vice president, T-Mobile USA. “Bobsled by T-Mobile takes our communications services innovation to a whole new dimension, bringing simple and cost-effective connections to more than half a billion people overnight, allowing people on Facebook to more easily connect and giving voice to social networking. Our new Bobsled brand will evolve in the coming months to provide even more ways for people to connect, no matter what platform, device or mobile provider they are using.”

Users merely need to click on a particular friend’s name to place a call, effectively discarding the need to feed the number of the concerned person. All Facebook users can answer any incoming call without actually downloading the app. In addition, the Bobsled app also powers the Cloud Text and Group Text Group Text features on the new T-Mobile Sidekick 4G. T-Mobile is planning to enhance this new app by integrating video chat, VoIP calling to mobile and landline capabilities in the U.S. as well as offer apps on slates and smartphones across mobile platforms irrespective of the carrier.

The T-Mobile Bobsled application for Facebook users is currently available for download absolutely free of cost.
