Man of steel Superman the ‘most toxic’ superhero says McAfee

If you happen to be an ardent fan of Superman and are always ready to take a dip online to acquire new information about the character, McAfee has a word of advice for you – be careful. Declaring him as the ‘most toxic’ superhero, the computer security software company has revealed that searching for results related to him online are likely to incur the most number of bad links as compared to others.

As strange as it may sound, this study highlights that even something as simple as comic book characters can be harmful while you’re on the Internet. It is based on bad links, viruses, malware and sites with malicious software that turn up after you type in the name of particular superheroes.

Searching for Superman has 16.5 percent chances of you ending up on an unsafe site. He is followed by other popular superhero Thor, searching for whom produces a 16.35 chance of the same. Wonder Woman and Aquaman are tied at third place, whereas Wolverine, Spiderman and Batman follow respectively.

McAfee has also released a set of actions you can perform in order to ensure that you’re not met with unsafe online content. Among them is being vary of free content or too-good-to-be-true offers. You should also beware of content that asks you to download something before actually giving you what you want.

Superman’s dominance in this McAfee study of ‘most toxic’ superheros can be attributed to the fact that malicious content creators are looking to cash in the craze attached with the upcoming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice film.
