Starbucks for Android app arrives

Starbucks for AndroidThe Starbucks mobile payment app for Blackberry smartphones and the iPhone had come around early this year. The Starbucks for Android app now offers Android users a quicker and hassle-free way of making mobile payments. This Android app is designed to facilitate easy payments at more than 9,000 U.S. Starbucks Stores.

It works by displaying a barcode on the phone, which then can be scanned by a device at the Starbucks stores. Enabling users to pay their coffee bills, find Starbucks stores and check rewards, the app also allows them to track their remaining card balance.

“The expansion of our mobile payment footprint has been driven by customer interest and input. With the addition of Starbucks for Android to the Starbucks app line-up, a Starbucks mobile payment app may now be used on approximately 90 percent of smartphones currently in use,” mentioned Adam Brotman, vice president, general manager, Digital Ventures at Starbucks Coffee Company. “Starbucks is committed to providing customers richer experiences – both in our stores and on-the-go. By expanding mobile payment capabilities to Android smartphones and with Safeway now offering mobile payment in its close to 1,000 Starbucks locations, we’re giving customers the opportunity to experience mobile payment in more ways and at more Starbucks locations.”

The Starbuck card can be easily accessed through the phone and can be refilled by using any major credit card. Mobile payment is anticipated to start at nearly 1,000 Safeway supermarkets across the U.S., including the company’s Vons, Pavilions, Dominick’s, Randalls, Tom Thumb and Genuardi’s stores till July.

The application is available at the Android Market for free and is compatible with Android 2.1 version and above.
