Boasting of being eco-conscious could be something as simple as laying hands on the Sprint LG Optimus Elite. This is apparently the third device after the Rumor Reflex and Viper from the carrier that shows off some eco-friendly features.

The offering operates on the Gingerbread platform while sporting a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen. Armed with a 800MHz processor, its rear panel is embedded with a 5MP snapper and camcorder with flash. Keying in letters on the virtual QWERTY keypad should be simple with the touch facility right in place. Moreover, the Sprint LG Optimus Elite is said to support hotspot capability that can hook up to nearly 5 Wi-Fi compatible devices.

“As a leader in environmental responsibility and sustainability, Sprint continues to expand its portfolio of eco-friendly devices and services by providing consumers with strong device choices. LG Optimus Elite is a dynamic and affordable green option for customers who want to go green without sacrificing the latest features. We are thrilled to make this available as we celebrate Earth Day and think about what each of us can do to support sustainability,” commented David Owens, vice president-Product Development, Sprint.

Playing the successor to the LG Optimus S, this handset is NFC-enabled which means apps like Google Wallet are ready at hand. It is inclusive of Box that provides up to 50GB free cloud capacity and permits sharing it too. Folks looking for an environment-friendly phone will be satisfied to know that the device in question is ULE Platinum and RoHS ratified, while carrying recycled plastics.

Available in color choices of titan silver and white, the Sprint LG Optimus Elite price is marked at $29.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate and a new 2-year service agreement. It is expected to start shipping from April 22 onward on Sprint sales channels and the official site. It is slated to be up for grabs via other retailers starting May 18. The release date and price for Virgin Mobile USA will be disclosed later.
