Sprint has declared that its latest push-to-talk service, Direct Connect, will start operating from October 2. Along with this service, the Kyocera DuraMax mobile phone is also set to begin retailing on the same date.

The 3G CDMA-based Sprint Direct Connect equips broadband data capabilities, push-to-talk features, and a wide coverage map. Users can connect with a maximum of twenty other service subscribers simultaneously by the mere push of a button. The company promises to offer instant calls, improved push-to-talk reliability and support for superior data applications through its new service and 3G data network.

The fast broadband speeds apparently help customers benefit from the latest technology applications like those for enterprise business productivity, social and multimedia support along with advanced push-to-X capabilities in the future. Built with Qualcomm, the company’s push-to-talk platform enables an expanded coverage footprint capability for the Sprint Direct Connect service.

Paget Alves, president-Sprint Business commented, “Our customers are asking for broadband and push-to-talk. We’ve seen steadily increasing demand for faster data speeds, better and broader coverage, and more applications on push-to-talk devices. Sprint Direct Connect is designed to solve for all three.”

Sprint will be launching new Direct Connect enabled devices by the fourth quarter of this year and the first among them, the Kyocera DuraMax mobile phone, is scheduled to release on October 2. Incorporating the non-slip Dura-Grip surface, the forthcoming device comes embedded with a 2-inch QVGA TFT main display and 3.2MP camera. This handset has been crafted to meet Military Standard 810G, making it a dust, shock, vibration, water and temperature proof device.

The Kyocera DuraMax can be bought from Sprint stores from Oct. 2 for a price of $69.99.
