Sophos, a developer of security software and hardware is all set to unveil its first app, the Sophos Security Threat Monitor for the iPhone. The application endows users with a better know-how of new and existing computer security threats.

The app provides live hourly updates straight from SophosLabs. SophosLabs is a world wide network of researchers and analysts constantly keeping an eye on the internet for new viruses, spywares, malwares, spams and phishing threats.

“People are spending less and less time chained to their desks, and an app like this gives users access to the very latest security information, wherever they are, states Graham Cluley, Senior Technology Consultant at Sophos. Sophos Security Threat Monitor is updated hourly by our analysts based around the world. Rather than merely providing text-based statistics, we’ve made it easy for users to understand the latest malware attacks, with alerts and information delivered straight to their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.”

The Sophos Security Threat Monitor enables a Threat Spotlight that shows the user the most potent and widespread threats at a given time. It follows up by providing details such as the name of the threat, its alias, those at risk and how to avoid being victimized. The app also features the Latest Threats section which provides a listing of the top ten threats examined by the experts in SophosLabs. It also includes information on the detection date, Operating Systems which would be affected and the prevalence of the threat. The section is also able to link the user to the Sophos website for more information on each threat.

The application also incorporates Stats. Stats provides a graphical representation of threats with three screens showing spam, email and web-based threat statistics. The app from Sophos is also equipped with Maps, which shows the user the threat information with the help of zoom-able Google Maps. The map empowers the user to check where in the world the newest threats are materializing. Additionally, it shows the most recent subject lines used in spam campaigns.

The application Sophos Security Threat Monitor is free of cost and can be effortlessly downloaded through the iTunes App Store.
