Sony Xperia Z3+ launch: Specifications, price and features

The Sony Xperia Z3+ has been launched in India for the price of Rs 55990 in spite of the fact that it’s serious overheating problem hasn’t been reviewed and solved by the company. As you can see from Android Pit’s YouTube video below, the camera application was shut down within almost 20 seconds of being launched because the Xperia just couldn’t ‘take the heat.’ The problem is being caused by the choice of processor powering the handset.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC has been getting some bad publicity due to its alleged overheating jinx. Whether it’s because Samsung wants to pick a fight with the popular chip-maker or not, it was wise of the company to choose its very own 14nm Exynos 7 Octa processor for the Galaxy S6 instead of the Qualcomm one. But Sony with its Xperia Z3+ was among the top mobile brands to show its support for the chipset. And so we’ve been forced to highlight the smartphone’s heating issue now.

But it’d be worth noting that the offending processor was pushed through mass production in March 2015 after claims of the overheating glitch being resolved. As for the Sony Xperia Z3+ device’s features, they’re pretty much what you’d expect of it. The phone’s got a 5.2-inch FHD screen, 3GB RAM, Android Lollipop, a 20.7MP main camera, a 5MP front-facing lens and an octa core processor. It’s also IPX5- and IPX8-certified for resisting water and dust to a certain extent.

Like we said, Sony will be issuing a firmware update for the Xperia Z3+ sometime in the future. But there’s no guarantee that the ‘fix’ won’t involve throttling the full might of Snapdragon 810 to keep the temperature to an acceptable low. So you might want to wait a bit before laying hands on it.
