Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z receive Jelly Bean 4.2 firmware update

If you own any of the Sony devices from amongst the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR or Tablet Z, then you will be happy to know that the Jelly Bean 4.2 firmware update has gone live. Although we do not know exactly which regions will be receiving the OTA update when, we understand that it will be phased out.

The company’s official Twitter handle called @SonyMobileNews has revealed this bit of information. Apart from the usual bug fixes and performance tweaks, the upgrade is likely to bring some more useful features. Users can expect it to improve the display quality as well as make the cameras of these gadgets even more efficient. And all those of you who have had battery issues with the Sony devices can heave a sigh of relief as some fixes are on their way.

As you may already know, this is not a software update which means the devices will continue to run on Android Jelly Bean 4.2. And for those who have pinned their hopes on Android 4.3 will have to wait a bit longer before the upgrade is beamed out to them.

Apart from running the same mobile platform, there are some other similarities between the mobile gadgets. All of them are integrated with a quad core Qualcomm processor to deliver an improved multitasking experience. Also, except for the Xperia ZL, the other Sony phones and the tablet mentioned here are capable of resisting water as well as dust.
