Sony Xperia Z rumored to pop up at CES 2013 with 5-inch 1080p display

The existence of the Sony Xperia Z along with its possible debut at the upcoming CES 2013 is the subject of the latest buzz in town. Rumor has it that the device will be joining the ZTE Grand S in the 1080p phablet category when the trade show hits Las Vegas.

The Xperia Z is said to be equipped with a 13MP camera featuring a BSI sensor. Even though leaked pictures reveal a tiny lens squeezed into place on the front panel, the quality of the snapper is still unclear. Ars Technica has led us to these specifications and it claims a Chinese website, ePrice, to be the actual source of the information.

Xperia Branding

This year witnessed the launch of the HTC’s Droid DNA, wherein the Taiwanese company brought us a phone with a 5-inch 1080p display. It was but natural that other OEMs would soon follow suit. The ZTE Nubia Z5 and the Oppo 5 picked up on the trend as well. Now the upcoming smartphone, or rather the phablet, will also most likely bear a similar screen size and resolution.

Not stopping at the DNA, HTC will apparently be showing up with the M7 in the approaching year. This particular handset happens to be a successor to the One X and will be flaunting a 5-inch 1080p SoLux screen. Coming back to the device in question, it will presumably be fueled by a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and incorporate Adreno 320 graphics.

The Sony Xperia Z may be facing its competitors at the CES 2013 on January 15, which is a week after the trade show begins. The supposed price bracket should revolve around 4298 yuan (approx. 690 USD or 427 GBP).
