New Sony Xperia A4 mid-range handset debuts in Japan

The Sony Xperia A4 has been officially launched and this device will take its place as a mid-range flagship in the company’s lineup. The phone, however, is designed specifically for the Japanese market and it will be offered through NTT Docomo which is one of the top carriers there.

In short, the Sony Xperia A4 isn’t going to be making its debut outside Japan, at least not with the same branding. We’re saying this because the handset is most likely the Z4 Compact in disguise. It looks the same as the new flagship phone and it also has top-tier hardware. Also, the Z2 Compact was launched in Japan as the A2 exactly a year back.

Additionally, previous leaks did suggest that we would see the Xperia Z4 Compact arrive around this time. NTT Docomo is promoting the new flagship and also the latest Sony phone side-by-side on its online store, adding more credence to the real identify of the handset in question.

The A4 smartphone isn’t identical to the Xperia Z4 in looks, but it follows the same design approach. And the handset is no slouch as it features a Snapdragon 801 quad core processor with Android 5.0 Lollipop. There’s also a 20.7MP G lens camera on the rear. More or less, the device is similar to its predecessor in the hardware department.
