Sonos has already launched a free app for the iPhone that lets users control Sonos’ music system wirelessly. The company has sought to extend the same utility to the Google’s mobile platform by recently unveiling the Sonos Controller for Android. It’s a free app that transforms most Android smartphones into a wireless controller for the Sonos multi-room music system and is slated for a public launch at this year’s MWC.

Music fanatics will need an Android handset and the Sonos S5 in any room to begin enjoying unlimited tracks within the comfort of their home. The new app also enables wirelessly playback and access to innumerable songs from the internet or personal music libraries. It features the company’s latest innovation, a music voice search capability which finds any album, artist or track when the user simply speaks into the handset. Using an Android phone, anyone can seamlessly play the same song in every room or jumble it up by playing different songs in each room.

Since the handset just controls the music and not the source of it, there is no disturbance even if users receive a text or a call. Playing and searching songs or playlists from popular services like Last.fm, iheartradio, Napster, Deezer, Pandora, Rdio, Rhapsody, Wolfgang’s Vault, SiriusXM Internet Radio and more are said to become relatively easy with this app. The Sonos Controller for Android works well on any smartphone running Android 2.1 or later versions with a screen size of HVGA 320 x 480, WVGA 480 x 800 or WVGA 480 x 854.

The Sonos Controller for Android will be available as a free app in the Android Market starting from the month of March.
