The musically inclined are up for some excitement with almost a virtual studio-like environment having arrived for iOS devices in the form of an app. Songcatcher ensures audio and MIDI recording to provide a musical experience that would probably be of help to songwriters and musicians.

It has two interfaces particularly for experienced musicians, amateurs who wish to give music a try and individuals who just want to have some musical moments. Project mode offers a user friendly interface with full functionality. Its layout is similar to conventional music software, with all controls being easily accessible. Simple mode is basically for the inexperienced music interface user who desires to start off with the app.

Five layers of audio and five layers of MIDI can be recorded. Audio to MIDI conversion gives a studio-like atmosphere with songs being sung and instruments being played in the background. Users can create their own band and add in their voice. Some of the instruments include piano, electric piano, drums, bass, guitar, distorted guitar, synth, organ, strings and horns along with a resizable piano keyboard.

For perfectionists, there is the MIDI editor for fine-tuning performances. Users can avail of mixing functions like panning and bounce mixes or re-import tracks. Apart from these, other features include MIDI exporting, line-in support and tempo track with optional click, and the ability to export mixes in various formats for mailing.

SongCatcher is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 3.0 or later. Priced at $1.19, the application is available for downloading through iTunes.
