Snapdeal turns Apple iPhone 4S into wood this time, takes another hit to reputation

Snapdeal has been hit by another bout of bad publicity after a customer recently received a delivery of pieces of wood instead of the iPhone 4S. This is the second time that such an incident has marred the reputation of the e-commerce website which was previously in the news for sending a buyer a bar of Vim soap instead of a Samsung Galaxy Core Duos.

While the previous incident was eclipsed by Hindustan Unilever Limited (the brand behind Vim) grabbing the opportunity to get itself some good publicity by sending a Samsung Galaxy Core Duos phone to the aggrieved party, no one has rushed to the rescue this time around. Pune resident Darshan Kabra, apparently ordered two Apple iPhone 4S devices, only to get pieces of wood instead of the handsets.

Snapdeal Sends Wood Instead Of iPhone

As TOI reports, Kabra was luckily spared the agony of shooting off mails to Snapdeal for a refund, since he had placed the order on Cash on Delivery basis. Upon laying hands on the package which was sent under order number 3862653450 on December 11, he claims to have opened it before handing over the money. The two iPhone units which were supposed to be worth Rs 40508 in total, weren’t there of course.

Snapdeal Customer Complaint

Kabra’s reaction was to refuse to pay any cash for the pieces of wood, but obviously. No public relations officials representing Snapdeal have commented on the issue so far. But this e-commerce website is not the only one to have been hit by such a problem. Several weeks ago, a Flipkart customer publicized a video showing an empty box being delivered to him instead of it carrying the flash drive it was supposed to contain.

So what do you make of the latest Snapdeal incident? Since the retailer has third party sellers vending their products here, it’s possible that the pieces of wood replacing the iPhone 4S was just the handiwork of some unscrupulous dealer. But maybe it’s time that the company took a more active measure to weed out such folks?
