Snapdeal has announced its mobile browser will soon be available in over 12 languages in order to help consumers who prefer interacting in their native tongue overcome communication barriers when it comes to online shopping. Hindi and Telugu have already been added to the new multilingual platform.
Snapdeal plans to include 9 more by January 26 next year. The list of new languages is comprised of Oriya, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Assamese, Tamil, Kannada and Bengali. The site claims it’s the first e-commerce portal to offer multiple regional language interfaces.
The expansion has increased the Snapdeal mobile browser’s reach to over 130 million smartphone users in India. These consumers primarily utilize their native tongue to interact. The brand thinks the move will result in online purchasing becoming accessible to all.
Rohit Bansal, Snapdeal’s Co-Founder, asserts the decision to offer multiple languages came about due to the feedback it received from customers and vendors. The vendor says a significant portion of its customers chose to interact in Hindi or other local lingos when they spoke to customer care executives.

Snapdeal had organized a multilingual project team for the purpose of ensuring a smooth consumer experience in any language. This gave way to the brand building a dedicated Grammar Engine to guarantee translations which are free from mistakes. The revamped site now lets people pick a language for browsing, payments and order tracking.
Furthermore, the new platform apparently joins together trans-literation, translation and grammar checks to provide a seamless experience. Snapdeal says this offering has been developed on top of Snaplite, the 85% lighter version of its mobile web browser. It consumes less data and loads within 1/4th of the time which other sites take.
