Smartphone use increases globally: Google

According to a Google study involving people from 26 countries, it is apparent that smartphone usage is increasing globally. Countries making the maximum use of smartphones include the UAE, Norway, the UK, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Sweden with more than 50% owning the same. Supposedly, the smartphone penetration rate is more than 40% in 7 other nations namely the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, the US, Spain, New Zealand, and Denmark. The statistics show that mobile devices are becoming indispensable for people across the globe and that is influencing consumer behavior and preferences.

Almost 68% of respondents in China searched for content on their devices, while 73% in Saudi Arabia as well as 72% in Argentina did the same. Approximately 91% and 88% of smartphone owners primarily accessed social networking tools in Egypt and Brazil, respectively. In terms of China, almost 59% of the participants purchased a commodity via their devices. In the US, a major chunk of people comprising 80% affirmed that they make it a point to carry their devices while leaving their homes. The findings also suggested that about 1 in 3 people were ready to let go of TVs, but not their mobile phones.

The results showed that the respondents engaged in multitasking as well as looking for local data on their devices. Relative to the 26 countries that were studied, the percentage of smartphone use was highest for users in the Middle East, coming up to almost 60% in Saudi Arabia and 62% in UAE. Nearly 24% of the population in Argentina owned a smartphone, while 52% of people in Australia sailed the same boat. Other nations like Norway, Sweden and the UK saw a significant rise in smartphone adoption within a year.
