Back in December last year, SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone and iPod touch was updated to 2.0 and offered owners of the Apple devices high quality video streaming as well as a new guide. Now it looks like Android handset users can also avail of such clear entertainment as Sling Media unveils SlingPlayer Mobile for Android.

Through the new offering, mobile phone owners can enjoy and control the home TV and DVR through their Android gadget. Entertainment enthusiasts can expect to clearly view all their TV content across their handset when the device is paired with a PRO-HD or Slingbox SOLO via Wi-Fi and 3G. Hence, users are endowed with the option of changing channels, watching TV shows and controlling the DVR on the mobile itself.

The SlingPlayer Mobile software enables handset owners to view as well as control video sources like Satellite set-top box and DVR, basic cable, Telco / IPTV set-top box and DVR, and Cable set-top box and DVR. Other video sources that can be managed include Home security cameras, Tivo, Digital Over-the-Air broadcasts and Apple TV. Through this new feature, Android owners will be able to comfortably enjoy all the content played across their home TV screen directly on their handsets.

SlingPlayer Mobile 1.2 is touted to require Android 1.6 and up. The software is tagged at a price of $29.99 and can be picked up from the Android Market.
