Video calling just got better with the introduction of the updated Skype for Android. Refreshed to version 2.6, users of the app are now allowed to send pictures and videos to friends or family from Skype via their Android smartphones and tablets.

According to the official Skype blog, the process of sharing files and viewing documents while on the move has been considerably enhanced. This application enables users to make free voice and video calls to others on Skype and operates over Wi-Fi or 3G on a mobile data plan. Version 2.6 has brought along with it improved battery life and better video quality, especially on those devices which make use of the Nvidia Tegra 2 chip such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Motorola Xoom and Acer Iconia Tablet.

The blog states that the company is currently working on expanding the list of whitelisted devices for incorporating video support. The phones featuring in this list have been tested by Skype’s engineering team for delivering a smooth video experience. The listed devices are basically smartphones running on the Android 2.2 Froyo OS or above, including the HTC Amaze 4G and Motorola Droid Razr. Owners of these mobile devices can try Skype video calling for free.
