Skype 3.0 for Android has made an appearance in the Google Play store with a new design for tablets. In the month of October this year, we reported the software’s introductory version for devices running on the Windows 8 operating system.

The upgrade available now supports SILK, a wideband audio codec, which has been designed with an aim to improve the audio by capturing the actual essence of human speech and in turn giving a boost to the voice quality. Regardless of fluctuating Internet connection speeds, it attempts to provide audio quality which is as good as possible.

Coming to the already existent features, users will be able to employ their front-facing cameras for video conferencing with people. The software allows texting on an international scale for free while also making possible the group chat option to its customers, although calls made and texts sent to phones or landlines will be charged.

Version For Mobiles

The updated version has been solely made available for devices running on the Android 2.1 operating system or higher. So it has a fairly wide range of devices covered. However, the usage of the camera in gadgets based on the Android 2.2 platform will be restricted to the one placed on the flip side only while those with version 2.3 or later should be able to use both the rear facing and front-facing cameras.

Moreover, users can not only share pictures and videos stored on their device but also merge their accounts with a Microsoft ID to have all their contacts from Messenger, Hotmail and Outlook stocked in one place. For the regular social networkers, the app offers options such as checking Facebook, updating statuses and so on.
