The Samsung Z1 smartphone which will be the company’s first handset based on its home-brewed Tizen OS, was expected to go official on December 10 and obviously that hasn’t happened. The reason for this has been attributed to a small delay and we’re still anticipating seeing the device reach India in the coming days.
The previous launch date was based on insider information and there’s was no official confirmation that the Samsung Z1 would be reaching India on December 10. Tizen Experts is reporting based on information provided by people ‘close to the situation’ that the smartphone should see a release soon.
So, it’s safe to assume that the handset will arrive by the end of December or maybe even in time for Christmas. The phone has been extensively leaked over the weeks and we can confirm that it’ll arrive as an entry-level option. The website is also reporting that the company is assembling the phone in India itself as it has imported 2.4 million separate parts for the SM-Z130H which are valued at over $1.7 million.
Here’s a roundup of the known Samsung Z1 specifications:
– Tizen OS 2.3
– 4-inch WVGA TFT LCD panel
– 1.2GHz dual core processor
– 512MB RAM
– VGA front camera, 3.2MP rear snapper
– Dual SIM support w/ HSPA 3G
The Tizen platform has already been made available through different hardware. Samsung’s Gear S and NX300M camera come with the OS preloaded and you can expect it to get a wider implementation in the future.
With the company assembling the Samsung Z1 Tizen smartphone in India, you can expect it to go easy on the pocket. Based on the specs, we estimate it to retail for under Rs 7000.
