Samsung unveils Exynos as new application processor family

Samsung Exynos Logo Samsung has been relentlessly attempting to add simplicity with a tinge of excellence and novelty in the lives of its consumers as far as mobile phones are concerned. To further raise the bar of technological advancement, the company has now revealed Exynos as the brand name of its application processor family. Well, Exynos will be applied to Samsung’s application processors that are crafted for empowering mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.

The brand name comes with a meaning which associates Samsung’s ‘smart and green’ strategy adopted by its semiconductor devices and solutions. Exynos chips have been fabricated to support the performance and power requirements of the company’s handsets. The word Exynos actually comes from the Greek words smart (exypnos) and green (prasinos). While smart signifies the high-performance aspect, green denotes low power features of Samsung’s application processors.

“Application processors for the mobile market are one of the flagship products in our semiconductor business,” commented, Seh-Woong Jeong, executive vice president of marketing, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics. “We are excited to introduce the brand name of Exynos for Samsung’s application processor family. As consumers demand more from their mobile products, Samsung’s Exynos chips will be the power inside enabling the coolest HD multi-media features with even longer battery life.”

The naming system will be first conducted onto the dual core processor codenamed Orion. Packed with alluring multimedia features, the application processors also assure a long battery life. Through the assistance of improved graphics processing unit (GPU), the new processors are reportedly able to offer 5 times superior 3D graphics performance over the previous processor generation from Samsung.

Publicized with the name Exynos 4210, Samsung’s powerful 1GHz dual-core application processor is due for production next month.
