Samsung Gear S2, Gear VR to arrive in India soon

The Samsung Gear S2 and Gear VR could be arriving in India in January according to a new report. The manufacturer is supposed to host a launch event on that date for the unveiling of the devices.

To recall, the Samsung Gear S2 made its first appearance at IFA Berlin last year. The smartwatch comes in two versions namely the regular variant and the Classic model. The units differ only in terms of style, with the former sporting a silicon band and the latter, a leather strap.

There’s also a 3G version of the Gear S2 available that lands with a SIM card slot. Unlike its predecessor, the newer wearable runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS. The software is compatible with Android-powered phones and can send users alerts for messages, fitness updates, emails and reminders.

Buyers of the Samsung device will have a limited set of options for third-party apps, given the OS doesn’t offer as many choices as Android Wear. Coming to its specs, the gadget houses a 1.2-inch sAMOLED 360 x 360 screen with a pixel density of 302ppi. The Bluetooth-only model packs a 250mAh battery and the 3G version, a 300mAh one.

Samsung has blessed the smartwatch with IP68 certification which ensures it’s dust-tight and waterproof. The company has also stuffed it with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal room. The wearable is capable of storing up to 500 songs. It keeps track of an individual’s steps, heart rate and daily activity levels.
