Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge hit India

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have made its way to India, a fortnight after the handsets were announced internationally. The two are set to go on sale on March 18 with pre-orders starting from March 8.

Interested buyers will get a free Gear VR headset if they pre-book the Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge before March 17. They’ll have to shell out Rs 48900 for the 32GB model of the first and Rs 56900 for the second. There’s no word on when the 64GB version is landing in India. As expected, both come with the Exynos 8890 processor here instead of the Snapdragon 820 one.

The new Samsung handsets sport a similar look when compared with its predecessors. Most of the major changes have taken place below the surface. For instance, the two last longer thanks to a much bigger 3000mAh (S7) and 3600mAh (S7 Edge) battery. In good news for microSD fans, expandable memory has made a comeback after getting dropped in the previous variants.

Another highlight is IP68 water and dust resistance. The certification means the Galaxy S7 can travel 1.5m underwater for up to 30 minutes and live to tell the tale. This time round, the manufacturer has opted for a 12MP rear camera. The drop in resolution is made up by the fact that it features dual-pixel technology, commonly seen in DSLR shooters.

Check out the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S7:

Samsung is also looking to imbue some local services for its Indian consumers with the launch of a new Concierge service hidden within its My Galaxy app.
