Samsung Galaxy S5 India launch set for March 27: A peek at its features

We’ve just got an invite to the Samsung Galaxy S5 India launch event which will be held on March 27 at 11.45am in New Delhi. And if Samsung plans to stick to its usual policy of not following Apple and actually releasing its flagship smartphone in the country before it gets old, then we could see it hit shelves on April 11.

April 11 is the day on which several major markets across the globe are also scheduled to welcome the Samsung Galaxy S5. So here’s peek at the key features of the device, the ones we hate and the ones we love.

Samsung Galaxy S5

If we start with the looks, this is one of the things we dearly dislike about the Galaxy S5. Instead of going the whole hog and ditching plastic for metal, the company decided to stick with plastic. And then, just to be safe and possibly make it appear less tacky, it decided to sprinkle the rear with unsightly pockmarks spaced at regular intervals.

After that it took not one, but two leaves out of Apple’s book and introduced a fingerprint sensor as well as a gold color option for the handset. We don’t mind the biometric sensor if you consider that the South Korean is just keeping up with the times. But the excess of gold devices and the fact that so many companies started painting their gadgets in this shade only after Apple did it really bothers us.

Being Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung should be taking a chance and giving people something revolutionary to ogle at. Sure, it’s put in a newer processor, a much better camera (4K video recording possible), a fresh interface and the black-and-white Ultra Power Saving Mode among other things. But it could do much better than a health monitor on the back. Where’s the awesomely high resolution 2K display? Where’s the 64-bit chipset? Where’s the chic new design?
