Samsung Galaxy S5 : Here’s why it’s worth the Rs 51,500 price in India

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 flagship has gone on sale around the globe and it’s available in India for a premium price of Rs 51,500. While many have praised the phone for its new innovative features, others say that the device falls short in delivering the ‘wow factor.’ So if you’re wondering on whether the phone is the perfect choice for you, we’re going to make things easier.

There are many factors to be taken into consideration before you can take a decision. Like most flagship phones from Samsung, the Galaxy S5 is released in multiple variants. Depending on your locations, you either get a Qualcomm-powered model or one with an Exynos chip. Since India is yet to make the transition to LTE, the flagship with Samsung’s own silicon is what we get.

So which model is better?

There has been much debate on which model is faster and we’ve even tried to clear out the differences in performance. The LTE version has a quad core Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5GHz, while the Exynos one has an octa core configuration where you get four Cortex A15s and four A7s operating at 2.1GHz.

While the former has the advantage in clock speed and GPU performance, the latter is slightly more power efficient and has more cores to handle tasks owing to HMP support. They both offer 2GB of RAM, storage options of 16GB and 32GB as well as 128GB microSDXC support. The bottom line is that you won’t notice much of a difference between the two. Also, the phone will be at par with other flagships in the market, where performance is concerned.

Water-Proof Design

Design and new features:

At first glance, you won’t notice the difference between the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S5. Both phones share the same design, but the new one has a few tweaks. Firstly, it’s slightly larger since the display size has been increased to 5.1 inches. The company has also made it water-resistant, while retaining the removable back panel design.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 isn’t the smallest or lightest phone on the market, but its 8.1mm thick profile and 145g weight doesn’t make it an inconvenience to carry around or use in a single hand. You get the same 1080p AMOLED display that was used on the previous flagship, but its durability has been increased with Gorilla Glass 3 onboard.

Health Features

Samsung has also fitted a fingerprint sensor into the home button. This adds an extra layer of security and the scanner can be used for multiple purposes apart from just unlocking the device. We’re talking about signing into website and making payments amongst others. Lastly, on the rear, you’ll find a 16MP camera that features an ISOCELL sensor and 4K video recording. Then there’s the heart rate monitor just below the snapper.

Accessories:

When you buy a premium smartphone, you’d expect to find some pretty cool accessories for it. Samsung has already treated the Galaxy S5 to a number of goodies including a wireless charging cover, S View cases and Gear smartwatches. You can expect to see a plethora of customization options from third-party companies as well, offering innovative products including extended battery cases and other add-ons.

Conclusion:

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a good all-round smartphone, but a little overpriced. Its design hasn’t been modified much compared to last year’s model, but its dust- and water-resistant capabilities make up for the shortcoming. The phone is also amongst the fastest on the market and the extra features are welcomed.

Lastly, Android users always expect to get the latest there is from Google and Samsung is no slouch in delivering software upgrades. So, you can expect to have the newest releases soon after they’re launched.
