Samsung Galaxy S III hits more than 9 million pre-orders globally

The fact that the Samsung Galaxy S III crossed 9 million pre-orders globally should not come as a surprise for a device of its caliber. Or at least one that has been subjected to so much publicity. With leaked images and speculations having done the rounds frequently, its launch in London was followed by a horde of pre-bookings through carriers like T-Mobile and Three amongst others.

If the latest buzz is to be believed, roughly 296 network operators have committed to dispatching the next Galaxy phone. This piece of news arrives from the Korea Economic Daily, as reported by TechCrunch. A Samsung representative who did not wish to be named revealed that the production of the smartphone in question is speeding up at the company’s unit in Gumi.

The predecessor to this handset namely, the Samsung Galaxy S II, had achieved something along these lines not very long ago. It was unveiled at the MWC last year and managed to collect about 3 million global pre-orders by the end of April. But the fact that it attained this figure after about 2 months, something that the new entrant managed to surpass after 3 weeks of its unveiling, should give the third generation handset a generous edge over its former variant.

Analysts in Korea are speculating that the company should be able to generate around 5 million units of the latest Galaxy S phone per month. This ICS treat arrives with a 4.8-inch display and an 8MP snapper as well as a front-facing sensor for video conferencing. Coming to its software angle, there are a horde of intuitive features including a tweaked version of Android Beam dubbed S Beam.

As long as pre-order customers don’t see their Samsung Galaxy S III units delivered a little later than expected owing to overwhelming demand, everybody should be happy.
