The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has started receiving the update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in India, just over a week after the handset began getting the send-up to the new OS internationally. The upgrade is being delivered OTA and weighs in at 1.4GB, so it would be wise to download it over Wi-Fi and carve out enough space for it to be stored.
To recall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was initially released all the way back in 2014 and ran on Android 4.4 KitKat. The update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow should be a welcome one for owners, given the brand’s track record of pushing out upgrades at a very slow pace.
The promotion to Marshmallow may also serve to make the phone more appealing to people who are thinking of buying the Samsung handset now. As seen on SamMobile, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow brings in a number of changes to the Galaxy Note 4. Touchwiz has been refreshed with a new visual design and further provides enhanced usability. There’s also an advanced power saving mode to extend its battery life by cutting down on background data.
Note that Marshmallow doesn’t support the Decrypt device function. If a user has encrypted their Galaxy Note 4, they won’t be able to disable the encryption after updating. In order to prevent this scenario, they’ll have to dismantle encryption before they embark on the upgrade process.
