Samsung ChatON messaging app 3.5 is cross-platform and slightly cooler

In case you missed it, the Samsung ChatON messaging app has been pushed to version 3.5 which offers a couple of features you may find interesting. If you’re going to ask us whether the refresh makes it as cool as rivals like WhatsApp and BBM, it does not.

Samsung ChatON still has a lot of catching up to do with other messenger services. Maybe it’s the branding that doesn’t let it stick in people’s heads when they think of messaging applications. At any rate, here are several ways in which the updated app is better than the old version.

There’s a recall message feature that lets you delete a message sent to a pal when you’ll are talking one-to-one, even after the receiver has already read it. Obviously, that begs the question ‘Why?’ and we’re not imaginative enough to present you a scenario where it makes sense to extend your reach and delete a sent message that has been read already.

The software’s integration with Glympse means you can share your location with friends and now you can have up to 1,001 people in a chat room. The upper limit for group chats used to be 200 heads before. Another nice tweak is the ability to send files as large as 1GB to ChatON contacts, which is always good to know even if you won’t need to depend on this accommodation often.

Version 3.5 of the application now supports translation in 14 languages, with the latest addition of Arabic, Farsi, Hindi and Turkish. Another change worth pointing out includes the ability to access and manage ChatON and SMS/MMS in one single chat room.

Samsung ChatON is compatible with Windows Phone, Android, iOS and BlackBerry devices, as well as PCs and feature phones.
