Samsung Android smartphones rule the roost: iGR

A new research conducted by iGR has discovered that residents of the U.S. prefer a Samsung Android device over other brands and OS options. As is common knowledge and illustrated by the recent Nielsen survey, Android has been ruling the OS market by being the most favored one among U.S. consumers.

For quite a while now, the main OS competition has between Apple and Android. The latter has been maintaining its number one spot since quite some time and this new study reveals its market share to be 47 percent compared to the Apple iPhone’s 24 percent.

“Understanding why consumers select specific brands and certain smartphones is critical to the success of OEMs in the highly competitive U.S. handset market. While a user’s current handset brand influences the selection of a new Android smartphone, many other factors also come into play. For example, handset display quality and functionality also highly influenced the smartphone purchase decision,” cited iGR Research Analyst, Sarah Thoman, who lead the study.

Among handset brands who employ the Android OS, Samsung has emerged as the most preferred one. This comes as no surprise going by the expanding number of smartphones that the company has been churning out in recent times.

Following close on the heels of Samsung is Motorola and HTC in the second and third positions, respectively. The fourth place was taken up by ZTE while Huawei occupied the fifth spot.
