Roku App

Converting the Apple smartphone into a remote control is the newly released Roku for iPhone app. Owners of the Roku streaming player who use the Roku Channel Store for viewing TV shows and movies can now transform the iPhone into a convenient remote with this application.

With the Roku app, users are allowed to easily execute tasks such as launching and rating channels as well as managing the lineup of shows and surfing through hundreds of channels in the Channel Store, all with the swipe of a finger. The iPhone is transformed into a simple touch-and-swipe-based remote incorporated with certain buttons that are not found on Roku remote controls.

The Roku software lets users instantly add or delete channels from their player and is capable of functioning with all generation Roku players. iPhone owners can manage and switch between different Roku players at the same time. This application is equipped with three buttons namely home, remote and store.

The home tab shows users the list of channels that have been added to the Roku homescreen and through this feature they can launch the channel, view its details, remove and rate it as well. The remote tab, as the name suggests, makes the iPhone operate as a remote control and features functionalities like up, down, left, right, skip, play and instant replay, among many others. Lastly, the store tab enables users to visit and browse through the Channel Store wherein channels have been sectioned under various categories which are either ‘free’ or ‘paid’.

The Roku for iPhone app can now be downloaded from the App Store for free.
