At an event held in Mumbai today, the launch of the BlackBerry Torch 9860 was announced by RIM. The new smartphone is powered by the recently released BlackBerry 7 operating system and sports a stylish appearance.

This all-touch handset equips a 3.7-inch display which is said to be the largest ever on a BlackBerry smartphone. The high resolution display promises to deliver a rich responsive touch interface with fast and smooth graphics. The Torch 9860 has been optimized for displaying web pages, images and videos as well as offering a powerful gaming experience. Featuring Liquid Graphics technology, the latest smartphone equips a dedicated high-performance graphics processor along with a speedy CPU.

This powerful new smartphone features many new enhancements, including the next generation BlackBerry 7 operating system, and we think customers will be particularly thrilled by the faster performance, enhanced browsing and richer multimedia,” opined Ms. Frenny Bawa, Managing Director, India at Research In Motion.

The BlackBerry 7 OS, which powers the 9860, offers a speedy, smooth and intuitive experience to users. It comes with the next generation BlackBerry Browser, voice-activated searches, personal and productivity apps and allows users to manage personal and corporate content separately with ease. The browser enables an enhanced version of the WebKit browser engine which delivers browsing results that are up to 40 percent faster than BlackBerry 6 based smartphones. This smartphone is also said to be up to twice as fast as models running BlackBerry 5. The browser has been optimized to support HTML5 for offering incredible gaming and video experiences.

The BlackBerry Torch 9860 is priced at Rs. 28, 490 and will soon be available at leading retail stores across India.
