Reliance Jio now offering 120GB free data, Prime membership cashback

Reliance Jio has got a couple of schemes up its sleeve to entice people into continuing to use its services even after March 31. The day marks the cut-off date for its Happy New Year offer which saw a nearly endless supply of free data and calling.

Reliance’s main weapon to stop people from leaving its brand is a Jio Prime subscription. People have to pay Rs 99 per year to become members and Rs 303 per month to continue taking advantage of the current Happy New Year benefits.

Jio is now trying to make this transition easier by promising a 100% cashback for Prime memberships in a roundabout way. Under the terms of the offer, a person would have to pay Rs 99 via the Jio Money app to sign up for Jio Prime. They would then get Rs 50 as cashback.

This would have to be followed up by recharging Rs 303 or above for 1 month and getting another Rs 50 back as cashback. In all, they have gotten Rs 100 in their Jio Money wallet, negating the Rs 99 they paid to register for Jio Prime. However, the amount will be given in the form of a discount voucher for each recharge subject to a limit of 5 transactions.

Reliance also has a Buy One Get One (BOGO) offer which allows 5GB of data to be given away for free under the Rs 303 plan and 10GB under the Rs 499 one. This was supposed to only be applicable for a month but has now been extended to 12 months.

Accordingly, opting for the Rs 303/month scheme will mean paying Rs 3636 for 12 months and getting 60GB of data for free over the course of the year, in addition to the 336GB the plan comes with. Similarly, the Rs 499/month scheme would involve coughing up Rs 5988 and getting 120GB of data free, plus the 672GB bundled in the pack.

Reliance claims that this means an individual would only have to pay Rs 8 per GB for a year. It should be noted that the BOGO deal is only available till March 31.
