Reliance Jio launched, to go live from September 5

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced that the network will go live in India from September 5. The statement was made at its annual shareholders’ meeting where he also revealed the company’s tariff structure and other offers. The operator’s preview scheme has already been in the market for a few months.

The highlights of Jio’s plans start with the fact that it is offering free voice calls and roaming charges throughout the country to its customers. The network’s 4G data will be sold at Rs 50 per gigabyte; a rate which Reliance asserts is the cheapest in the world. It will not follow any blackout days.

Purchasing Jio’s SIM will be through the newly implemented eKYC process that is completely secure and activates connections immediately. Using this service also grants customers access to a wide range of Jio-specific apps which Reliance claims have subscription rates worth up to Rs 15000.

Reliance is offering 25 percent more data to students in a special discount scheme. Jio’s network comes bundled with the Lyf smartphone series. 4G-enabled phones in this lineup will be available for a price of Rs 2999 and 3G variants are set to be sold at Rs 1999. The company aims to spread its services to all parts of India at a minimum rate.
