Reliance Jio 4G commercial launch to happen in coming months

Reliance Jio has officially moved one step closer to its commercial 4G launch, with parent company Reliance Industries declaring that it’s planning to roll out the telecom operator’s services at some point in the coming months. The platform is still conducting tests to iron out any kinks before diving head-on into a pan-India unveiling.

According to Reliance Industries’ first quarter results, Reliance Jio currently has nearly 1.5 million test users. The average monthly data consumption and voice usage of each is apparently in excess of 26GB and 355 minutes, respectively. The former is also expected to increase rapidly.

Reliance Jio says that opening up its 4G trials to all Lyf handsets allowed it to test its services outside the initial set of test users. The latter group mostly consisted of its workers. This was later expanded to include their family and friends via an invite system. Feedback has apparently been encouraging.

Even Reliance Jio’s exclusive apps have been tested during this trial period. As for its future ambitions, the network player is planning to rollout a pan-India digital services business. Other than its more prominent ventures into fixed and wireless broadband connectivity, the telecom company is also looking to offer its services across multiple fields.

This includes sectors like entertainment, education, communication, government-citizen interfaces, healthcare, financial services, and security. A recent report claimed that Reliance Jio had tied up with Samsung to bundle a free SIM card offer which would grant them 3 months of data for free.
