Qualcomm Toq jumps onto the smartwatch bandwagon

Smartwatch war is heating up as Qualcomm Toq has landed right in the middle of it to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Gear, Sony SmartWatch 2 and Pebble amongst others. The accessory is being exhibited at the IFA 2013 in Berlin as we speak and will be up for sale in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Qualcomm Toq smartwatch has been designed to serve as a second screen for smartphones to make it easy for you to control music, view notifications and reminders, manage calls and much more. Just like traditional watches, its display is always on and potential customers need not worry about the battery life as it can go without being charged for days together, thanks to WiPower LE technology.

It is fitted with a Qualcomm Mirasol capacitive interferometric modulator touchscreen which can project clear images in bright sunlight. And what’s more, the accessory can even be expected to deliver a true stereo Bluetooth audio experience. Additionally, Qualcomm has announced that the gadget will receive periodic software updates for additional features.

The device can be charged wirelessly and the company has also introduced a set of wireless Bluetooth headsets that work seamlessly with the Toq. To make the audio accessory comfortable and wearable for an entire day, it has been designed to sit outside the ear canal and is loaded with a tweeter and a woofer for rendering improved-quality audio. The headset also allows wearers to make calls via the smartphone.

Pricing information of the Qualcomm Toq smartwatch has been kept under wraps for now, but it will be made available before the end of this year.
