Qualcomm is currently testing Snapdragon 810 SoC with Cat. 9 LTE support

Qualcomm, with its new 64-bit Snapdragon 810 SoC will be seen spearheading the race for offering top-notch connectivity features on flagship smartphones that will be introduced in the year 2015. News is that the company has begun testing a version of the chipset that is compatible with the ultra-fast Cat. 9 LTE standard.

While the currently active Cat. 6 models can achieve a downlink speed of 300Mbps, the upcoming Cat. 9 LTE will be able to offer a whopping 450Mbps. The uplink speed however will remain the same at 50Mbps. A report from Fudzilla is telling us that Qualcomm is currently testing the advanced Snapdragon 810 SoC in the UK with the help of Huawei and the EE network.

The company is ready to be challenged by Samsung moreover, as the South Korean mobile giant has apparently decided to equip its upcoming Exynos 6 chipset with Cat 10 connectivity which although offers the same downlink speed of 450Mbps, doubles up the uplink speed by 50Mbps to 100Mbps. But there’s not much to worry about for California-based Qualcomm since Samsung’s SoCs usually end up being infused only into its own smartphones and tablets.

The Snapdragon 810 is highlighted by its octa core processor as well as its 64-bit nature. It houses on it a quad core ARM Cortex A57 unit and a quad core A53 unit, apart from an Adreno 430 GPU. Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology has of course been incorporated into it as well, aside from support for streaming 4K videos.

Expect to hear about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC a lot next year, as major mobile companies are rumored to have infused their flagship phones with the said unit.
