Panasonic P81 phone with swappable back covers teased for India launch this May

A playful teaser of a Panasonic P81 smartphone with colorful, swappable back covers flew into our inbox today and it certainly looks like the company is planning to launch it in India this May. The image accompanying the message which says ‘Wanna Play More?’ is a splash of vivid colors. It mentions May 2014 and hints that you will be able to dress up your phone with a new color every day.

A slight exaggeration, we might assume, seeing as you can’t possibly find a fresh shade in which you’d like to color your device daily. If the Panasonic P81 is going to hit retail shelves with changeable back covers, there won’t be an unlimited number of hue choices for users to select from. We hope the swappable skin is not the only highlight of the forthcoming release though.

So far down the line, Panasonic hasn’t hit the Indian handset market with expensive options and has mostly kept them under the Rs 10000 bracket, with a few exceptions in some cases. The company hasn’t given out any information with regards to the specifications of the P81. It does look like the device will come pre-loaded with apps such as readwhere- Online Reading Hub, Hungama and Evernote apart from offering access to India Today Digital Magazines.

The previously released T31, P11, T21 and T11 were nailed at Rs 7990, 16,490, Rs 13,990 and Rs 9,790 upon launch. If you’re going to insist on asking about a tentative price, then our best guess is that the Panasonic P81 won’t cost more than Rs 25000.
