Panasonic Eluga U Android KitKat smartphone now listed online at Rs 17220

The Panasonic Eluga U which hit availability status in early August is being sold at lower rates than the officially announced price of Rs 18990. This is obviously a good thing because mid-range smartphones are facing high demand in India and there’s still plenty of room in the market considering that the country has one of the fastest growing appetites for mobile devices.

The Eluga U handset could compete with the Xiaomi Mi 3 which currently appears to be drawing a lot of dislike towards itself owing to Flipkat supposedly canceling orders automatically and the insufficient number of units stocked at every sale. The Panasonic phone has a very similar specs sheet though it differs in one or two ways starting with its lower resolution display and less powerful processor.

The Eluga U handset is priced at Rs 17220 on Flipkart and even appears in an eBay India listing for Rs 17730. It has a plastic rear casing and an overall generic look as far as Android phones go. While the 2GB of onboard RAM, KitKat and 5-inch touchscreen may meet expectations satisfactorily for a handset in the mid-range segment, asking about Rs 18000 for a Panasonic product such as this one may render it slightly unattractive to those considering it.

Panasonic Eluga U specs list:

– 5-inch 720p touchscreen
– Android v4.4 KitKat OS
– 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 chip
– 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage
– 32GB expandable memory
– 13MP rear camera and 2MP webcam
– Dual SIM support
– 2500mAh battery
– 141.5 x 71.3 x 7.9 millimeters
– 141 grams

We wonder if Xiaomi’s publicity stunts and a general Indian dislike for overpriced smartphones will make a success story of the Panasonic Eluga U.
