Oxigen to start VNO services by 2016-end

Oxigen may soon become one of the first firms to set up Virtual Network Operator (VNO) services in India. It’s apparently in talks with BSNL and other major telecom operators to kickstart its ambitions by the end of the year.

To recap, the government recently issued guidelines for VNOs to operate in India. The term alludes to a company which acts as a sort-of retailer for service providers. The firms are basically middlemen that license bulk talk time and bandwidth at wholesale rates from different players and resell them to paying customers.

Oxigen

Oxigen, a digital wallet firm, already has a large distribution network and is in the process of snapping up air-time from various network companies. The brand’s Chairman and Managing Director Pramod Saxena told PTI that it plans to launch its VNO operations by the end of 2016 after going through the newly issued guidelines.

Saxena asserts that Oxigen is also in talks with foreign players who are experts in the VNO sector to help the company set up its network. Its focus will center on the North East and Central areas of India before moving on to gradually become a pan-India operator with a presence across the nation.

According to him, Oxigen currently has 2 lakh access point in India in addition to its present online reach. It plans to offer financial products, value added services, and e-commerce options. It’ll also take advantage of its digital wallet as VNO.
